Welcome to
shermannursery.com- we're glad you stopped by! For over 120
years, Sherman Nursery Company has been growing and supplying retail customers
with quality bareroot and container nursery stock. Whether you're just
starting out with bareroot plant material, or you've been purchasing it for
many years, we aim to provide you with a "field" of information to
help your growing business. Before we "dig in", we would like
to treat you to a tour.
It all began...
...in
1884 as the dream of Erwin Milo Sherman and a bit of rented land in Charles
City, Iowa. Four years later, Sherman Nursery Company was incorporated
and soon the rented 20 acres turned into 725 acres of owned land. In
1902, E.M. Sherman built his first greenhouses and by 1925, the greenhouses
stretched over two square city blocks. That same year, Sherman Nursery
became known as one of the largest producers of roses in the area and the
biggest grower of evergreens in the world.
On to the present...
As
depicted in the photos, it is clear that many things have changed and improved
over the years. New technology and production methods contribute significantly
to the successful growth of our plants and our business as well. Let's not
forget another major factor in Sherman's success- our people. Through
rain, sleet, snow, scorching and freezing temperatures, daily operations are
accomplished by 60 full time and 10-25 seasonal employees who are dedicated to
providing quality products and service.
A
partial view of Sherman Nursery's operation in Charles City, Iowa including 2
1/2 million cubic feet of temperature and humidity controlled storage. This
is where our nursery stock is stored while awaiting spring shipment. Also
pictured are our greenhouse facilities which aid in the annual production of
approximately 2 million softwood cuttings.
Big or small- we
appreciate them all...
We are privileged to serve
over 3,000 independent retail outlets, landscapers, greenhouses and
contractors across the country with quality fruit trees, small fruit, shade
and ornamental trees, ornamental shrubs, peonies, roses, evergreens, hedging,

appreciate each and every one of our customers. Because no two customers
are alike, we are challenged daily to satisfy your needs on an individual
basis. We enjoy this challenge! We witness first-hand the many new and
innovative ways you are working hard to keep your business growing. Keep up
the good work!
